The change you don’t have, without a till or a terminal

You know the scene: the customer hands over 2,000 FCFA for 1,590 FCFA of shopping, and you do not have the 410 FCFA. You write a voucher, you hand over sweets, or you lose the sale. Kobri gives you a fourth option.

Four things, from day one

You stop buying your coins

Many shopkeepers pay to obtain coins. That is a straight loss on the margin, every single day. It disappears.

You stop losing the sale

A customer who abandons their shopping for want of change is a lost basket and a customer who shops elsewhere tomorrow. They leave with their goods instead.

The voucher notebook goes away

Nothing to write, file, or dig out. No more arguments over an illegible or disputed slip six months later.

You can see your numbers

Change given back this week, outstanding float, transaction log, export for your accountant. Everything the notebook never gave you.

A printed QR. That is all.

No terminal, no subscription, no installation, no extra electricity. We supply a small stand for your counter.

  • A printed QR, supplied by Kobri
  • A phone — yours will do, even an old one
  • A funded account with the partner microfinance
  • No setup fee, no minimum term
  • No Kobri fees during the pilot

Let’s answer them straight

Why do I have to put the money up front?

That is the real question, so let’s be direct: with a paper voucher, you keep the customer’s money until they return — sometimes forever. With Kobri, you give it back immediately. Yes, that changes your cash position. What you get in return: you stop buying coins, you stop losing sales, and the customer comes back anyway, exactly as they would for a voucher.

What if I have no smartphone at the till?

The printed QR works with no device at all. In that mode you use a daily code that you enter for the customer, within a daily envelope you set yourself. If you do have a phone, you move to the safer mode: a different code for every operation.

What happens if someone steals my code?

In daily-code mode, your daily envelope caps the maximum possible loss. The code rotates automatically every night, and you can revoke it in one click from your dashboard. In per-operation mode a stolen code is worthless: three minutes, single use, fixed amount.

What does it cost me?

Nothing during the pilot: no setup fee, no subscription, no commission on change, payments or payouts. Post-pilot pricing is being finalised with the partner institution, and will be shown before anything is signed. And giving change back is always free for the customer.

What if a customer disputes an operation?

Every operation is recorded in a tamper-evident ledger, with its date, amount and reference. What happened can be reconstructed exactly. That is very different from a handwritten voucher, where it is your word against theirs.

Can I hand out cash against a balance?

No, and you never have to. The customer requests a withdrawal in the app, and the partner microfinance pays it out: your till never doubles as a cash desk.

Four steps, one visit

  1. You write to us

One message is enough. We call you back and come to see you.

  2. We open your account

ID document, phone number, shop details. Verification is done by an administrator — that is a regulatory requirement.

  3. You fund it

A first deposit with the partner microfinance, for an amount you choose. Top it up whenever you like.

  4. You receive your QR

A stand for the counter, and you give back your first change.

Equip your shop

We are looking for the first shops in the pilot. Few shops, close attention, and your opinion shapes what we build.
